Is it just me or didn't yesterday feel kind of empty without Downton Abbey? I had gotten used to my little 9pm rendez-vous. I definitely felt the withdrawal effect and decided to watch one of my favourite episodes again: the Christmas Special (Season 2). I needed to feel comforted after the rollercoaster of a season that was Series 3. There was another reason to my watching this episode. I remembered being taken by the necklaces adorned by Lady Mary. She usually wears the mandatory long pearl necklaces and chockers characteristic of the era, but in this episode she opted for two pieces with Art Deco accents.

They inspired me to have a gander around Etsy and pick necklaces with a modern take on this style.

I saw this incredible necklace on foxtail+fern's tumblr and I had to make it mine. I can't believe with all the time I've been spending on etsy, it's actually my first purchase from there! The necklace comes from the shop Nina Mantra and all her creations embody what I'm so obsessed with at the moment : they're mystic, cosmic, mineral, magical, cryptic. I was supposed to be on a shopping ban this month as I just cashed out for tuition fees and need to save for the 'fancy camera' but I just couldn't get it out of my mind. carpe monilem. I have to stop myself browsing her shop because there are so many pieces that are screaming my name right now. I'm so weak.

Is it me or 2011 is the year of the bad news? We have so many now that my boyfriend came up with the shocking news game. Basically it starts with "hey guess what?" then I'm supposed to feign surprise and say "what?", he would then deliver his piece of shocking info and I would chime in. The goal is to last as long as we can... Okay no need to say this is pretty stupid but it's our way to cope with things.

There have been some international shocking news like the Japanese tsunami or Amy Winehouse's death or more recently the London riots and some personal ones which i'm not going to elaborate here.
Maybe it's linked with this strange climate where the stars don't seem to align that well but I've been feeling lately like wearing lucky charms. You know the sort of jewelery you can usually find in esoteric shops : ankhs, evil eyes, moonstones, etc...
I brought back from home stuff I was wearing in the nineties : a hologram evil eye pendant, a big jade silver ring and a Turkish blue eye given to me by a lady sitting next to me in a plane taking off from Istanbul (guess it was written all over my face how anxious I am about flying). I couldn't find my collection of rings which pissed me off (guess I will find them next time I'll look for something else as it seems to be the rule).
I go through these phases where I hardly wear any jewelery, the last 3 years had been the case, except for a 'wedding ring' I found in a Halloween brack, I haven't worn anything (maybe the odd long necklace...) and now I want to be covered into a subtle mix of minimalist and magic jewellery.

Tea Time and Jewellery

While wandering around on Etsy (the website "to buy and sell everything hand-made"), I stumbled upon the most delicious-looking and enchanting pieces of jewellery.
They are inspired by everything you could find on the most respectable Victorian tables during tea time. No need to say it was their Carrollian touch that instantly took my fancy.
Their names alone would make your mouth water : Mini Pink Strawberry Cake Ring, Have Some Tea Ring, Yummy Shortcake Ring, Chocolate Truffle Candy Ring, etc...
You might have understood it, the designer Kacchan works exclusively on rings when it comes to jewellery. Multi-talented though, she also runs a hand-made soap business. But enough with the talking (or the writing in this case), let me show you some of her little marvels :
