le temps des tulipes

I hope it doesn't get too ridiculously repetitive around here but I went to the National Botanic Gardens for the third time, a couple of weeks ago. I took my Mum, who was visiting for a few days. It was uncharacteristically sunny and the tulips, magnolias, bluebells and azaleas were out. It made for a delightful, colourful walk!

Something I didn't know prior to this visit is that this place is linked with one of the darkest period in Irish history. It was here that the infection responsible for the dreadful potato famine was indentified and research labs were laid on the very same ground.

Also, I found out that some of the glasshouses were built with some extra ironwork coming from one of my favourite places in London, the Kew Gardens. I think I may be even more in love with the National Botanic Gardens now!

Check out those crazy-looking flowers! They're called Protea Eximia and are from South Africa.

On a unrelated note, I got sucked in by the new flickr look as well as the free Terabyte (!) available and just opened a flickr account. Are any of yous on it?

Can never have too many flowers! Love those last ones - been seeing them often over here in Maine in different arrangements. Very exotic and striking!

Your amazing photos made me feel so warm inside :)

It's very much not repetitive. Going somewhere as beautiful as that as much as you want is quite alright!

These pictures are so gorgeous! The light is lovely, some of them look like paintings.

I am in awe of your photography skills! These are so beautiful Moira, if the people who run the Botanic Gardens saw them they would be stupid to not pay you to use them for publicity! I never knew the history behind it, it's so interesting. I'm due my annual trip to the gardens soon but I'll definitely be going on a weekday because the last time I went on a weekend it it was horribly packed!

For real. This is friggin' gorgeous! I love botanical gardens in general, but this one is amazing with all the cute doors and gates and white fences. And I don't know what camera you used, or if you edited your pictures a lot... but your photography looks so wonderful and the colours are so gentle and subtle and soft. I think all I need now is sunshine and a garden like this.

I just adore the botanic gardens at glasnevin. When the sun shine there are fewer nicer places to be in Dublin. I was there myself just a few weeks ago and took pictures to blog about soon! the palm houses are my favourite. Some gorgeous photos

well if summer has finally turned up and all the beautiful flowers are in bloom who could blame you for visiting 3 times! it looks like a wonderful place to spend a day, and especially if you're bringing along someone like your mum who i'm sure loved it as well.
