the post-christmas reds

I meant to take you to some parts of Dublin (mainly working-class) where the Christmas decorations reach a level that I thought was only attained by American telly in the 80s, but I didn't get the chance. I'll do my best next year. Instead, let's have a look around my Georgian neighbourhood. I wanted to capture a few front rooms before all the decorations were taken down.
This time of year always reminds me of the tale of The Little Match Girl that my mother would often tell me at bedtime. While walking in the cold, looking in people's living room as I pass on their sidewalk, I conjure images of the frozen little girl in rags whose heart was warmed by the view of a festive meal.

Very nice post, this is quite the atmosphere of the story of the Little Match Girl.

Beautiful homes. I like how they have been decorated very simplisticly so it's not overdone. Each home still oozes character!

Thanks for your comment too. I'm glad you enjoy my drawings, it means so much!

Love the photos Moira! My dad used to drive us around our area when we were kids to see the houses with the most lights. It's always so funny to see how overboard people can go with it! I actually bought my boyfriend the Dale Cooper Autobiography book after being reminded of it in your wishlist!

Hope you had a lovely Christmas and New Year!

This is such a sweet post..I definitely feel like the little match girl peering into people's warm twinkling sitting rooms. I've heard about those infamous Dublin estates but never saw them myself when I lived there. I spent alot of the Christmas zigzagging around the country though visiting different friends and family and couldn't get over how crazy everyone seems to have suddenly gone with lights...there were quite a few that would have rivalled the house from National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. Oh and by the way the jars in my pics were indeed DIYs..recycled from my recent wedding. Anyway happy new yr..looking forward to following your blogging adventures throughout 2013 :)

@the headless mannequin: i wish i could have a peak at their electricity bill! It must be even more impressive in the country, crazy lit houses sparkling in pitch dark

@jess: so glad you love them :) happy 2013! x

I never decorate for Christmas myself, but I love seeing other people's lights - especially when they go all out! I think there's a street somewhere in Sydney which makes it a big thing every year and people go especially to see it - I don't remember where it is at all though.

oh take picture of their decorations next year please! x
